October development update #1

During september and october, we have made a lot of changes to the website. In this blog post you can read all about them.

Features

Back to top

We have implemented a back to top button which uses smooth scroll. We have found that after navigating a long page it takes a long time to scroll to the top, so we implemented this shortcut.

Content dates

While navigating around the website we have found a lot of outdated information and it is hard for us to go back to the administration panel to find when specific content was last updated, or does it need refreshing. That is why we have added a section where you can clearly see when a piece of content was created, and when it was last updated. Some content can be older, and that is fine, but some require yearly updating.

We hope that now we can be more up to date. If we miss something be sure to send us an email and we will do our best to update the content as soon as possible.

Menu item: Informations

We have grouped a bunch of pages under a menu item called "Informations". The pages are:

You can find links to the pages also in the sidebar of each page, along with a table of content for each page, which has smooth scroll of course :).

Privacy policy

We had a privacy policy under construction since 2017. Finally, we have written it now. You can find all about the data we collect, your rights in regard to those data, cookies we use, and website analytics.

Terms of use

We had terms of use before, but we decided to take them down temporarily until we had them aligned with our new business plan (advertising).

About us

This new page is much simpler than before. It says who is the company behind this portal, and what is our mission.

Contact us

This page is redesigned to match our new advertising page and privacy policy. Also, it enables us to more easily filter out incoming messages.

Advertising

This is an old page which now reflects our business plan more closely. We have switched from a subscription based model to a one time purchase model with reoccurring ads model. You can read all about this on the advertising page.

Destination: Informations

We made a small face lift to the informations page of each destination. You can now also see all informations in the sidebar so that you can quickly navigate from one to the other without going back to the previous page.

Improved modals: reviews & inquieries

We have noticed that sending reviews and inquieries was a bit tedious if you had validation errors because the whole page would refresh, and you would have to open the modal again to see the errors. Now, we have used ClojureScript to make client-side requests to the backend and display validation errors on the form without refreshing the page. The whole experience is now much smoother and easier.

JavaScript improvements

We have finally fixed a long standing bug on the home page where you could not open other listings in the accordion.

Other

The whole website should feel much faster and smoother now.
The mobile navbar has been improved in regard to switching languages and searching.
A lot of pages got a small redesign. Expect more changes.
We have redesigned the events page. More changes incoming. We also had events this summer which was not the case the previous years. We apologize for that.
The administration panel received a whole bunch of changes, features and fixes. But we will not talk about that here. In fact, majority of changes was done to the administration panel because we wanted / needed to be faster and easier on us to do changes to the content & ads.
